Revolutionary
Shallow
Water
Oil Skimmer
Introducing
the
"S O S"
Cleanup Solutions For Oil
Spills and More!!!
Hi My name
is David Myer
I am the
co-owner of Alafab Incorporated, a fabrication and
machine shop in Mobile, Alabama. I am a local who
lives on Dauphin Island, Alabama. I have a solution
for cleaning up tar balls and light oil sheen in
shallow waters plus many more
applications.
I have
invented a "Shallow water
Oil
Skimmer",
hence the name " SOS"
This skimmer
is made and sold in eight foot panels, that easily
connect together to make between eight foot and
thirty-two foot wide skimmers. This simple skimmer
produces fantastic results, is lightweight, and
easy to use watch video below to see the
SOS in action
.
Design Elements of the "SOS"
"S
OS
AB1"
All
SOS
skimmers have an inclined front
panel made from expanded metal, dropping off
into a collection basket. The AB1 and
the AS1 have a tall back screens, the NB1
has no back screen but is replaced with a net.
Depending on the size of the tar balls, a
smaller screen insert, or net is
available.
This skimmer, model
"SOS
AB1" has 2 removable aluminunim
baskets that are ideal, when collecting waste,
where crane or pump out services are not available.
This can be used for quick disposal of the
collected waste, to support vessels.
The SOS skimmer has 2
models but can be set up in 3 different
ways.
"S
OS
AS1"

Here is the
"SOS
AS1" with a wood fiber absorbant sock
in place of the aluminum baskets. The idea here is
to capture any light oil, sheen or other waste in
shallow waters or marshes.
Once the sorbent sock is saturated with oil or
waste, it is simply removed and disposed of and a
new sock installed.
"S
OS
NB1"
This other option
the "SOS
NB1" is the same design except
the back is completely removed. A disposable
capture net having very fine mesh is attached
to the back of the frame, and as it's being
pulled, everything in its path is funneled in
to the net. Once full, it is tied up and
completely discarded-therefore, no need for
decontamination.
Since
I now have a patent pending, building a heavier
offshore version with a taller
back, capable
of handling 3 to 4 foot seas would be
easy.
The
SOS
skimmers are totally
maintenance free.
All pipes are filled with floatation foam,
and all steel is hot dipped galvanized.
So these skimmers
are.....
*
Very easy to manage - a small boat could
easily take 24 feet of skimmer right from
the dock to where the tar balls, sheen or
other waste areas.
* Each
panel is very easy to connect and disconnect
while floating - there are no loose
parts.
*
Lightweight 2 people can easily handle a
section.
*
Low cost and very cost
effective.
*The
SOS skimmers are
totally maintenance
free.
"Our
Guarantee"
Our factory
could easily build 150 eight
foot
S
OS skimmers
in a week.
The
SO
S skimmers
are very inexpensive.

I am skimming around 6" deep right
here.
As I stop pulling the
SOS, the side
pipes will rise approximately 4" above the surface
of the water.
While skimming, the idea is to submerge the 6"
pipes half way, so we can maintain a 6" skimming
depth.
Here you can see the absorbent sock
on the left side, and capture net in the middle,
and the aluminum trays on the right, which are the
three ways this skimmer can be used.

All pipes
are filled with floatation foam, and all steel is
hot dipped galvanized. Connecting the
SO
S Skimmers is easy and requires just 4
pins to be put in place.
If you would like more information about
our line of SO
S skimmers.
